Rust Grabs Second KCAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Honor

Wichita, Kan. - Junior Janelle Rustof Tabor College is named KCAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season.  The 5-11, Forward from Elbing, Kansas averaged a double double over two games this week.    

Rust scored nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Tabor defeated Kansas Wesleyan, 72-67, on January 16th in Hillsboro. On the 19th, Rust tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds in an 84-56 win at Sterling.

Rust finished the week with a 31.8% field goal percentage (7-22), 23 points, 22 rebounds, four assists, and a block.  Rust leads the KCAC in scoring with 320 points  (16 per game) and Field Goal Percentage at 47.8%.  She is second in conference with 147 rebounds (7.35 per game).

Beachum Named KCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

Wichita, Kan. – Trey Beachum of Bethany College has been named KCAC Player of the Week.  The 6-1, Senior Guard from Dallas, Texas led the Bethany Swedes in two conference victories over Sterling and McPherson this week.

On Thursday (Jan. 16), Beachum scored 14 points while pulling in seven rebounds against Sterling in a 78-73 home victory. Saturday (Jan. 19), Beachum recorded his career high of 25 points at McPherson, while adding five rebounds, as the Swedes defeated the Bulldogs 61-59.

Beachum finishes the week with a 54.5% field goal percentage (18-33), 39 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

Brandt and Gerardy are KCAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

Wichita, Kan. – Ryin Brandt of Ottawa University has been selected as KCAC Men’s Track Athlete of the week and Jeremiah Gerardy of Bethany College have been named KCAC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week. Both athletes competed in the Iowa State Open on January 18 and 19.

Brandt, a Junior from Paola, Kansas highlighted Ottawa’s finishers at the Iowa State Open. Brandt finished fourth place in the Pole Vault with a mark of 4.41m (14-05.5), which he successfully cleared on his first attempt.

Gerardy, a Sophomore from Maquoketa, Iowa finished first of 33 Non-Seeded runners in the 3,000m run at the Iowa State Open. The time of 8:52.76 gave Gerardy the 12th fastest time of the meet and a Bethany College School Record.

Sports Information Directors of the KCAC have to opportunity to nominate one male and one female track athlete along with one male and one female field athlete during for Player of the Week.  This week, no female athletes were nominated for awards.
